DIY: Watercolor Shoes

Here lately, I have been absolutely loving everything watercolor! I think it’s so pretty for spring and summer (or just anytime), and the pastel color combinations are so beautiful. Because of my newfound obsession, I decided to do DIY watercolor shoes that are “painted” with fabric dye!
I am so happy with how they turned out!! They are going to be so perfect for spring, and I can’t wait to wear them with all of my dresses and skirts! They are also so comfortable, so they’ll be a great everyday shoe.
Without further ado, let’s get into how I made these puppies!
For this project you will need:
-White canvas shoes (I got mine from Walmart for $5!)
-Fabric dye in whatever color you want
-Small plastic cups
-Painting sponges
Mix all of the dyes by filling the cups halfway with warm water. You really don’t need a lot of dye; just enough to make the water look dark! I ended up putting too much blue dye in the water, so I just watered it down a bit!
Here’s what my purple dye looked like.
And here’s how the pink looked! I did have to put quite a bit more pink in the water to color it just how I wanted.
Test out the dyes on a paper towel to make sure you are satisfied with the colors! This is very important because there is no turning back once you start to put the colors on the shoes.
Start out by making spots with the color that is the darkest (or the one you want to be the “main” color).
Make sure to make the dots all around the shoe, and don’t forget the laces!
Once you are satisfied with the number of spots, start putting the second darkest color next to the first. Repeat this process until all of the first spots have little buddies!
Using the lightest color, make spots on the other side of the darkest color. Repeat this process, and fill in with the other two colors as you feel necessary. I did leave some white space in the end, but the shoes are basically covered with color! I just repeated this process over and over until I was satisfied.
 The finished shoes!
I am so happy with how they turned out – I have been wanting a pair of shoes like this for so long, and they were so much fun (and easy!) to make!
Here is my YouTube video on how to make them – it might be a little easier to follow since you can actually see how I made them!
If you guys make these, make sure to show me on Twitter and Instagram – I would love to see them!

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

OOTD: Cold-Shoulder Romper

Today was a record high so far this year! I mean, the temperature that set that record was 70 degrees fahrenheit (about 21 degrees celsius for those of you on a different scale), so it’s not like today was a fantastically hot day…But it was still nice to have some sunshine and a warm day! My mom and I actually went shopping yesterday, and I got to wear one of the rompers I bought since it was so nice!

Romper: Pacsun

Bracelet: Forever 21

My necklace was actually a gift, so I’m not sure where it’s from 🙁

Shoes: These are actually a DIY I did the other day. Post to come soon hehe.

Sneak peak of these watercolor shoes! I’m so excited to share how I did this with you guys! 🙂

I’m so glad the weather is finally warming up! It’s already almost the end of spring break, though, so that’s really sad! This quarter should be fun so it shouldn’t be too bad jumping back into classes, and it also helps that my birthday is coming up, as well as Easter! Spring is probably my favorite season because there are so many exciting things going on, and everything feels so new and fresh. Hopefully this spring will be a good one!

What is your favorite thing about spring?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

OOTD: Springing Out of Winter

We’ve definitely had a couple of cooler days this month, but so far in March the weather has been really nice, and it looks like it’s going to be a warm spring (knock on wood!) this year. This outfit is great for the transition into spring because it’s perfect for the awkward days where it’s really warm in the sun, but still pretty cool in the shade!
Sweater: Nordstrom
Shorts: Nordstrom
Shoes: Nordstrom Rack

This outfit is perfect for a chillier spring day, and it’s super comfortable as well! I love how these shorts fit, and the color is great as well. I’m also loving my booties, and I think I’ll get a lot of wear out of them this spring and summer. Again, if it isn’t already blatantly obvious, I am so excited for spring! My birthday is coming up (April 8th), as well as Easter, so I’m going to have so many chances to dress up which I’m really excited about! Finals are also finally over and spring break has officially started! I’ll be able to catch up on sleep and see some of my best friends, so expect a lot of fun posts this coming week 😉
What are you most excited for this spring?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a great day! 🙂

Comfy Chic Outfits for Finals!

Finals week officially kicks off tomorrow for me, and I don’t know about you, but I always struggle to decide what to wear during the whole week! I never know if I should go for a more put together look, or just all out sweats and sweatshirt and not care at all. That usually ends badly, though, because after the test is done I usually feel super self-conscious that I look like I just rolled out of bed (even though I probably did)! To avoid all of those situations, I put together a couple of comfy-chic outfits that are perfect for finals week!
(Notice the “coffee addict” mug…that is what I am, especially during finals week!)

Surprise Back

I’m calling this outfit the “Surprise Back,” because it looks like a normal, comfortable outfit, but the back of the sweater has this really cool rib-cage inspired cut!

I put on a pretty rose patterned crop top underneath the sweater so it would show through and look really gorgeous!

My crop top matches my laptop cover, so that’s always a plus! I also braided my hair around my whole head to keep it out of the way.
 Sweater: Nordstrom
Yoga Pants: Lululemon
Shoes: Macy’s
 Crop Top: Forever 21
I think this outfit is so cute, and you can definitely get away with wearing yoga pants! They are just as comfortable as sweatpants, and this pair is especially great because they’re high-wasted so it looks better with the crop top!

Graphic Tee

Another way to dress up yoga pants is to wear a super cute graphic tee!

(Looking at that picture of ice cream on my friend’s wall…so much better than studying!)
Graphic Tee’s are such a fun way to make a boring outfit pop, and they are usually oversized and comfy! I love this one so much since Sunday’s are my favorite days, and I love the saying “Sunday Funday!”

It also helps to do a cute hairstyle as well, since it shows you put in a little extra effort! I also like to have my hair out of the way during tests because when I get stressed I tend to mess with it and lose focus! I don’t know if that’s just me, but either way it’s just so much easier to deal with hair when it’s up and out of the way.
 Shirt: Nordstrom
Yoga Pants: Lululemons

Low-key Jeans and Flannel

Ok, flannels are the best. They are so comfortable, and look so cute and casual!
This outfit is perfect if you want to look just a little bit more put together, or if you are going to be going anywhere after your final (celebratory frozen yogurt?!)!

Flannel: Garage
Jeans: American Eagle
Shoes: Converse

Comfiest Put-Together Outfit

This outfit may look put-together, but do not be fooled! It is just as comfortable as – if not more than – the first outfit!
This outfit is perfect if you have a last minute study date with that cute boy in your class, or if you absolutely have to look nice for something, like a presentation! It is still super comfortable since it’s a shift dress and oversized sweater, but looks really nice.
Pairing cute jewelry with this look makes it look even more put-together!

Again, I also like having my hair up just to keep it out of the way. This hairstyle is super easy to do, and looks really cute!
Honestly, I would wear this outfit all throughout finals if it was socially acceptable!
Sweater: Nordstrom
Dress: Nordstrom
Necklace: Forever 21
Ring: Tilly’s
Shoes: Macy’s
This is also a really great option for those of you who live in warmer places and yoga pants and sweaters are way too much to wear! You could just wear the dress if the sweater would be too warm, or pair it with a thinner one!

Alright, those are the options I thought of for comfy chic finals outfits! You can mix and match any of these to create your own unique variation, and they would all be so cute! If you guys try out any of these outfits, make sure to show me on Twitter (@stnkrbug) and Instagram (@stnkrbug)! Good luck to those of you who have finals – we can do this!

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

Spring Break Bikini Lust List

My Spring Dress Lust List seemed to go over really well, so I thought I would do a Bikini Lust List for spring break! I’m not traveling anywhere like Mexico or Florida, but I am going to California (FOR VIDCON!!!) this summer, and want to get some cute bikinis when they’re on sale! So, since I’ve been looking at some, I thought I would just do a whole post about them!

Even though I’m not going on a vacation over Spring Break, I’m still super excited! It’ll be nice just to stay at home and relax for a week and a half, and see my friends from high school. And I have Vidcon and LA to look forward to this summer! I seriously cannot wait.

Which is your favorite bikini? Do you have any Spring Break plans?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

OOTD: Periwinkle Pastels

Have I expressed enough just how much I’ve been loving this sunny weather lately?! It’s making me so happy and excited for summer, and I seriously can’t help wearing all of my spring dresses. Since I’ve been getting a lot of use out of them, I thought I would share another OOTD with you guys from this past weekend!
Jacket: American Eagle
Dress: Forever 21
Shoes: Converse
 Necklace: Forever 21
I also wanted to show you guys my hair of the day!
That’s it for this OOTD! Expect more soon because I’ve been wearing my dresses like crazy lately. I just really don’t like wearing pants when it’s all nice and sunny! I am definitely transitioning to my spring and summer self hahaha.
Do you like to wear a ton of skirts and dresses during the spring?

Thank you so much for reading and have a great day! 🙂

Healthy Snacks: Banana Oat “Cookies”

When I was younger, I actually really hated oatmeal cookies. It hasn’t been until the past couple of months that I have really been able to appreciate oatmeal and food that contains oats. Being at college ,though, I have realized that oats are so good for you and easily fill you up! They make for a great snack because a little bit fills you up for a long time. That’s why today I’m going to be talking about these Banana Oat “Cookies”!

Also just a quick announcement –  I recently got a separate Twitter and Instagram for my blog! I would love for you guys to follow me on there so you can stay extra up to date on my posts, and I love interacting with fellow bloggers and beauty/fashion/whatever-else-my-blog-is-about lovers! 🙂

I originally found this recipe on Pinterest from The Burlap Bag and decided to add a little bit to the original recipe since I love vanilla…
Recipe
-2 large bananas (preferably old)
-1 cup of oats (I used quick oats)

(optional, but they give these cookies a little bit something extra)
-1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
-Handful of chocolate chips (you could also use something else, like nuts)

Put the oats into a large mixing bowl.
Break up the bananas into large chunks and put them in the bowl. This makes the next step a little bit easier!
Using a fork, mash the bananas up and mix them with the oats. Make sure all of the bananas and oats are incorporated! This may take longer than you think.
Mix in a handful of chocolate chips (or anything else you would like), making sure they are evenly dispersed throughout the mixture.
Place the cookies on a greased cookie sheet about an inch or so apart. They don’t expand, so you don’t have to worry about having them super far apart!
Mmmmm look at that cookie. Bake them for 15 minutes in a 350 degree oven!
The finished cookies! I just kept them in an airtight container, and they stayed nice and fresh! I wouldn’t keep them in there for over a week, but don’t worry, they probably won’t even last that long! I had mine finished within about three days haha. They were such a nice little treat when I needed a small snack! And you don’t have to feel guilty about eating them – they are just made up of bananas and oats! Yes, there are chocolate chips in there as well, but a little bit of chocolate is just fine for you 😉
So this is totally optional, but you can “frost” these cookies with peanut butter before eating them! I did this because I am addicted to peanut butter, and ohmygosh did it taste amazing!!
What are your favorite kind of healthy cookies?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

Spring Dress Lust List

This past weekend actually turned out to be really nice; consequently, now I really want to go out and buy all of the spring dresses I can find. As soon as it starts to get sunny, I can’t help but wear all of the dresses and skirts I possible can! I have since made the mistake at looking at all of the spring collections from some of my favorite stores, so I thought I might as well make use of my searches, and share what I have really liked!

How pretty are all of these dresses?! I think the very first and last are my favorites, but it’s hard to choose because I love all of them so much!

Which ones are your favorites?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

Top Ten Beauty Hacks

Hey guys!
So today I thought I would share with you some of the “beauty secrets” that I use on a daily and weekly basis that I feel really help keep my skin clear and soft!

1. Drink lots of water and get plenty of rest! This is my number one tip, because if these basic needs are not met for your body, your skin will suffer! Your skin really reflects what is inside of your body, so make sure you drink enough water, and sleep enough in order for your body to be at it’s best! Remember that eight is the magic number: try to drink at least eight glasses of water a day and get at least eight hours of sleep each night.

2. Use a face mask once a week. You can either buy one from the store, or make one at home with simple ingredients in your kitchen already (I’m a huge fan of milk and honey masks). I find that when I put on my face mask every Sunday after a nice hot shower, I can relax so much and my skin feels so great afterwards. It helps you wind down after a long week, and helps your skin out at the same time! I also like to use a mask that is meant for deep cleaning so my pores can “breath”.

3.  Use Vaseline to get longer lashes. Every night I put Vaseline on my eyelashes and right at the base to make them longer. I don’t quite know how it works, but it really does! As a bonus, it also helps my skin at the base of my eyelashes which sometimes gets really dry.

4. Coconut oil can be used for anything and everything. There are  so many great uses for coconut oil – hydration for your hair, mixed with sugar for an exfoliant, and you can also cook with it! It can be used for virtually anything, so it’s worth buying and having around!

5. Exfoliate a couple of times a week. I use the exfoliating face wash from Simple, and the Buffy bar from Lush on the rest of my body to exfoliate. I find that exfoliating a couple of times a week (don’t go too overboard – three times a week should be the max) really helps your skin “glow”, as it gets rid of a lot of dead skin cells. It also makes your skin feel really soft!

6. Use vitamin E oil to get rid of scars. My mom has always done this, and it works really well. We get the vitamin E capsules and poke them open with a needle and use the oil inside to put on scars. Doing this every night for a little while really helps to get rid of unwanted scars.

7. If you have eczema or extremely dry skin patches, use cortisone creme to get rid of them. I get little flare ups of eczema in the form of dry, flaky patches, so I rub some Cortisone 10 cream on it, and within one or two days, it is completely gone. It also helps get rid of stubborn dry patches that just won’t go away.

8. Take your makeup off every night before you go to sleep. I cannot stress the importance of this! It is so  bad for your skin to go to sleep with your makeup still on – it clogs your pores which leads to bad breakouts. If you like not having to do a whole lot before going to sleep, buy some make-up removing wipes to quickly remove your make-up and cleanse your skin.

9. Try and have one make-up-less day a week. I don’t know if this helps a whole lot, but I like to have one day a week at least that I don’t wear any make-up at all. I just wake up, put on some lotion, and wash it at the end of the day, followed by more lotion. I feel that it just gives my skin a nice break, and allows it to “breath” for a whole day.

10. Rub toothpaste on pimples to get them to dry up and go away quickly. I have been doing this for years, and it always works like a charm! Just dab some toothpaste onto the center of the pimple, rub it in, and when you wake up in the morning, it should be smaller and easier to conceal! Sometimes the pimple goes away in a day, but other times I have to do this for another night to get it to completely go away.

What are some beauty tips/hacks that you swear by?
