Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Palette | Swatches, Review, and a Look!

I’ve been a fan of Jaclyn Hill for at least four years now, so when she announced that her palette was finally coming out, I was super excited. She’s been working on it for two years now, so the anticipation was definitely high! I bought my palette right at 8 a.m. on the launch date and it came in the mail last week. I filmed a video that afternoon, which you can watch below!

Of course I wanted to do a blog post on it as well and share some photos and swatches! I definitely wasn’t thinking, and didn’t actually take photos of all the swatches, so I had to screenshot them from the video – sorry! I took photos of the palette itself though, and of the look I created using the palette.

I did both brush and finger swatches!

Swatches from the first row

The rest of row one
Row two
Row three
Row four
Row five

The finished look I created!
Overall, I really love this palette! Sometimes the matte colors were a little bit splotchy when I swatched them, but I think it was a combination of me not having enough product on my finger, and the fact that they’re so buildable. They weren’t splotchy at all on my eyes, and they builded up so nicely. They also blended really well! It was super effortless to create this look, and I was so impressed with the shimmers in this palette. They went on so well with both finger and brush.
I really love all of the colors, too! Even though there’s a couple colors in the palette that look really similar on my skin, I do appreciate that there are a couple of options to similar shades. There’s so many looks you can create, and it’s definitely a palette I’ll be bringing with me when I travel so I can have options with the looks I want to create. There’s so many neutral looks you can make, as well as more bold, smokey looks. I’m really glad I have this because I definitely don’t have a palette that’s this big and versatile!
This is the first Morphe palette I’ve gotten, and I’m impressed, so I’ll probably try more Morphe products in the future. The only thing I wish this palette had is a mirror so I could get ready literally anywhere. I have other mirrors, though, so it isn’t too big of a deal. That probably would’ve made the price go up, too, so I can’t complain too much!
This palette retails for $38, but there’s so many coupon you can find through Morphe affiliates on YouTube, and Jaclyn herself has one which is JACATTACK (I’m not sponsored to say this!). This code gets you 10% so definitely use it! The palette is sold out right now, but will be restocked on Tuesday, July 18th at 8AM PST! I recommend getting this palette whether you are a fan of Jaclyn or not – you will not be disappointed!
What do you think about the palette?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

The BEST Dry Shampoo! | Pret-a-Powder Review

Having dark hair is sometimes the best and worst thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love the color of my hair, but it can be frustrating finding a dry shampoo that works with it. And, of course, my hair tends to get oily pretty quickly since I have a lot of hair, but the strands are fine. It’s strange because I have really dry skin, but my hair is the complete opposite. I used to wash my hair every single day, which is really bad, so I had to train it one summer to be able to wash it every other day, even with working out every morning. It’s gotten a lot better, but still gets a little oily on the days I don’t wash it.
The amount of dry shampoos I’ve tried is ridiculous; I’ve tried both salon and drugstore brands, and nothing really seems to make a difference and just ends up making my scalp itchy. I was watching one of Ingrid Nilsen’s videos and she mentioned the Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder, and for some reason it still took me a couple of months to buy it. So, fast forward a couple of months, and I was in line at Sephora and saw this product in the “Beauty to go” section and decided to buy it. The small size is only around $15 so it’s not too bad! Here are my thoughts on the product:

When I first tried this product it literally looked like I had dumped a bunch of translucent powder on my hair, and I was worried it wouldn’t work itself in at all. After a couple of seconds of massaging my scalp and brushing my hair, the powder started to disappear, along with my oily roots! I was impressed with how quickly it blended in with my hair, and it didn’t make my roots look gray at all.

The smell was also really refreshing, and made my hair smell like I had just washed it, which is a huge plus when your hair is feeling a little limp and blah. It isn’t too fragrant, and I noticed that the smell lasted the whole day, and until the next morning when I washed my hair. I am a huge fan of nice smelling hair products, I don’t know what it is, but if something works well but doesn’t smell the best I’ll try and find something else that both works and smells nice. Call it one of my quirks, but I realize that it’s a bit ridiculous.

As well as being a dry shampoo, this powder also adds a lot of texture and volume to your hair, which is just what you want when it’s the second day and your hair is feeling a bit limp. I honestly will add the powder to my hair even on the same day I wash it if I feel like I need a little bit more texture. This really helps when I curl my hair and want the roots to have some volume since the strands are a bit weighed down from hair spray, and the fact that my hair tends to fall flat the minute I start touching and fixing it. My hair is able to hold its volume a lot better when I add this to the roots, and it’s also great when I want to do a messy hairstyle and need some extra texture!

Overall, I’m super satisfied with this product and have finally found a dry shampoo that works with my hair! I won’t be switching anytime soon, and I can even get away with washing my hair every three days if I don’t feel like washing it one day. I definitely recommend trying this product, especially just the travel size since it isn’t too much of a commitment. It actually lasts for a long time, too, which is great! I’m still on this little bottle and it’s been about two months now.

You can also check out the video review I did of this product, if you’d like!

What’s your favorite dry shampoo?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a great day! 🙂

Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them: Movie of the Year?

It is no secret that I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I have read all of the books and watched the movies more times than I can count, so when I heard about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, I was extremely excited. I was nervous about how I would like it in comparison to the whole Harry Potter franchise, so I was definitely ready for the movie to come out! Since I went and saw it last night, I thought I would write a review on it, and start to get back in the swing of things here on my blog!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a whole new era of Harry Potter
As I’m sure many of you know, this movie is set in a whole different time than the main Harry Potter series. It is set in 1920s New York, specifically 1926, when Newt Scamander comes to America by boat. Through many unforeseen events, he ends up in trouble with the American equivalent to the Ministry of Magic. I don’t want to give too much away, but the set up for the film is great, as well as the backdrop! It’s so interesting to see a different time and place of the magical world, one where magical laws, regulations, and attitudes are very different. I really enjoyed the 20s fashion, music, and architecture throughout the whole movie, because it was very fitting to the movie itself, in that it added a lot to the quirkiness. It also really allowed the audience to immerse themselves completely in this new era of the wizarding world.

There are strong female leads
Tina and Queenie, the two main women of the film, as well as the president of MACUSA Seraphina Picquery, are all very strong females. Tina is very stubborn, and is successful in her career, even though she has hit a rough patch before she meets Newt, which is awesome to see. She isn’t talked badly about for wanting to have a successful career, and is encouraged by her younger sister, Queenie. They are both very supportive of each other, which is portrayed wonderfully. Queenie is not a career women, but she isn’t portrayed as “weaker” or “lesser” than her sister at all. We don’t really get to know Seraphina that well, but the interactions she does have with the main characters leave the audience with the sense that she is a very strong woman. She doesn’t let anyone push her around, and she is strong in her decisions and rules.

The world in Newt’s suitcase is beautifully made, as well as the beasts
We have seen Hermione’s expandable bag on the outside, but we never saw the inside. It was so cool to actually be able to see the inside of Newt’s suitcase, and see where all of his magical animals live. Of course since I absolutely love animals, that was one of my favorite parts of the movies. I’m really glad, though, that they didn’t show the inside of his suitcase a lot in the previews, so that it was more of a surprise for the audience. The creativity that was put into imagining the beasts and his suitcase was so incredible, and the fact that the magical creatures were still relatable to real animals was great. The fact that Newt Scamander had made his suitcase the way he did in order to save these magical beasts was also super touching, and a part of the movie that I absolutely loved.

Eddie Redmayne made an incredible Newt
I had only ever seen Eddie Redmaybe in Les Mis, so it was super cool to see him in something else! His Newt was super quirky, likable, nice, and strong, and he played him so well. He was exactly what you think a magical beast collector/saver/caretaker (?) would be like, but he also had a depth that played into his character development very well. Throughout the movie we learned a lot about him, and saw his softer side, rather than his initial blunt character. Above everything, he cares for his magical creatures the most, and feels a pull to save them, or anyone else in need. He was super relatable, and fit in perfectly with the other quirky wizards and witches we know and love so much.

The incorporation of Grindelwald, and other known families, was done very well.
Through what J.K. Rowling has hinted at, it was clear that this new series was going to include Grindelwald in some way. In the beginning of the movie, it is made clear that MACUSA is looking for Grindelwald after he has committed crimes, but it is unclear where he is at. I won’t give anything away, but the way in which they incorporated his story into this one was done very well. I’m so excited to learn more about him (and possible Dumbledore??) in the coming movies. We also hear a bit about a Lita Lestrange, so I’m interested to see if she has to do more with the coming movies, or if she’ll be included!

Overall, I really enjoyed this movie! It does make me long for more about the characters we know and love in Harry Potter, but I’m super excited to see how the characters from Fantastic Beasts progress and develop.

Do you plan to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them?

I hope you have a wonderful day! 🙂

Elf Instant Lift Brow Pencil Review

I feel like I’ve been doing a lot of reviews lately, but it’s because I’ve been branching out and trying new products, when in the past I would get stuck in a rut of buying the same product over and over. I actually hadn’t planned on doing a review of this product, but I ended up loving it so much! Elf is such a great brand because their makeup is really affordable and great quality for the money.

I’ve been using the Boots eyebrow pencil from Target, and when I went to go get another one, they were out. My poor dad was with me at the time, and he tried so hard to find the pencil I was looking for, bless his heart. I put him out of his misery and just decided to try out the Elf pencil. I didn’t really know much about it, and honestly I was not expecting much at all and thought I would end up replacing it when I went to a different Target.

I’m actually not quite sure what the whole “instant lift” part is supposed to mean because I don’t really notice a lift in my eyebrows at all, they just look like a nicer version of my eyebrows, haha. The packaging of the pencil reminds me of the Mac eyebrow pencils since it’s a twist pencil, and the product itself is very similar (for much cheaper). Overall, the packaging does not feel cheap at all, and the spooly is very nice!

I also like the overall size of the pencil, and it’s very easy to grip because it isn’t too thin at all.

Here is a closer look at the product. The only thing that was a little challenging at first was the fact that the pencil isn’t as opaque as other eyebrow pencils I’ve used in the past. It just takes a little bit extra to get it as dark as I like – not that I even like it that dark – but it isn’t like other pencils I’ve used before. At first I didn’t like this, but after using it for a couple of days it’s actually kind of nice because it’s easy to fix mistakes!

I also really like the quality of the product, and the whole formula of it. Some of the pencils I’ve used are kind of waxy and feel like they weigh down my eyebrows, but this one definitely doesn’t. It blends really well and ends up looking very natural. Maybe that’s what they mean by an instant lift, because it doesn’t clump your eyebrows together?? We just might never know.

Here is another look at the spooly. I really like the size of it – it’s a lot bigger than other ones I’ve used before! It’s also nice that it’s covered with the plastic lid. It is a bit rougher than usual, but it makes the product blend really well with my actual brows.

Overall, I am super happy with this pencil, and I would definitely recommend it for those who want natural looking eyebrows, but still want to make them pop. I honestly used to be one of those people who never understood why you would ever fill in your brows, but I’m so glad I started to. I was always just worried that it would make my face look ridiculous, but if you don’t go too overboard, it just enhances your natural brows!

What is your favorite brow product?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Concealer Review

Tarte has been one of my favorite brands for a while now, as I am sure you are well aware of. I rave about every product I have tried from them, so when I saw their new Rainforest of the Sea collection I was so excited to get my hands on it! I had been using the Maracuja Concealer for probably two years, so I definitely felt like it was time to change things up. Since I haven’t tried a new one in so long, I decided it was time to try something new.

Along with the new concealer, I got a Beauty Blender as well! I was definitely very late to the train, but I’m so glad I finally decided to get one, because it is seriously the best makeup sponge I’ve ever used, and really helps to make my concealer look flawless.

I decided to get the nude beauty blender because I didn’t want the pink one to start looking dirty really quickly. I’m really glad I went with this one because it doesn’t look discolored at all yet!

Okay, can we just talk about the packaging?! The whole collection has the prettiest boxes and bottles. They ombre coloring with the gold lettering is so gorgeous and gives off the impression of high quality right from the start.

The bottle itself is also so pretty. The applicator is a little off-set wand, so I just apply it directly to my under-eye area and blend it in with my damp beauty blender. This product goes on very easily, and blends out so well. It also doesn’t crease at all throughout the whole day, and lasts for 12 hours! It doesn’t advertise that, but mine has been lasting for the whole day while I wear it. I set it with my Elf translucent powder and it does not budge.

Only one layer is needed to cover my dark circles, which is really impressive! My dark circles are very dark no matter how long I sleep, which is very frustrating. I can never seem to get rid of them naturally, so my only option is to cover the suckers up. This product does that flawlessly, though, so I’m very happy with it!

The only “bad” thing I found about this product was the smell. When I first opened the bottle, it smelled kind of chemical-y, or like nail polish. I was initially worried about putting it on my face, but I didn’t have any problems with it whatsoever, and I have now gotten used to the smell.

This concealer comes in 6 different shades and is pretty affordable. While it isn’t the cheapest or most expensive products out there, it works wonders. It’s also very hydrating which is awesome for my dry skin! I also use it to highlight my noise, forehead, and chin and it works great. Again, it blends out very well in those areas and gives my face a nice, natural glow.
Pros:
-Hydrating
-Stays all day
-Covers my dark circles completely
-Easy applicator
-Covers blemishes as well
-Works great as a highlight over my entire face
Cons
-Weird smell at first
I also made a video review about this product, so if you want to see the actual applicator and swatches, make sure to check that out!

Have you tried anything from this new collection yet?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

The Jungle Book 2016 Review

When I was younger, The Jungle Book was one of my favorite Disney movies since I love animals so much. I was fascinated by the colorful jungle in the movie, and all of the interesting characters who made the movie fun. When I found out they made a live action version of the animated movie, I was ecstatic. I re-watched the animated one and brushed up on the book in order to be ready for the new one. My friend, Joycie, actually won tickets to go see an early showing of the movie, and she brought me with her! It was so cool to see the movie early, and I thought I would do a review of it (with no spoilers!) since I love the original one so much.

The 3D was definitely worth it.
I usually don’t like seeing movies in 3D since it’s a lot more expensive, and never seems to be worth it; however, I’m so glad I got to see this movie in 3D! Everything was so realistic that I actually felt like I was there in the movie, it was so cool! It also honestly felt like you were moving, like on a ride in Disneyland. The whole experience was so immersive and it’s made me want to see more movies in 3D if they are as good as that one. Maybe 3D is just generally better when the movie is live action rather than animated.

The graphics were amazing.

I couldn’t believe how real all of the animals looked – it seriously looked like they used actual animals to film the movie. The scenery was also really incredible and felt like you were right there in the forest with Mowgli. It’s really amazing how real they can make movies look anymore! The movie as a whole was just generally beautiful because due to the gorgeous graphics – they couldn’t have done it any better, in my opinion! I also can’t explain enough how adorable the wolf cubs were.

They couldn’t have had a better cast.
I’ve always been a big Bill Murray fan, so I may be a little biased, but the whole cast was so great. The little boy Neel Sethi made such a wonderful Mowgli, I’m sure he’s going to turn out to be a really great actor! I was also so glad to see that Lupita Nyong’o voiced Raksha – I absolutely love her as an actress, and she’s just as good at voice acting. I honestly can’t say enough good things about the cast, and I’m really glad that they didn’t lose the magic of the original Jungle Book, they definitely added to it.

There was a much fuller explanation of the backstory to the movie.
In the original storyline, we only really know that Shere Khan hates humans because he was burned by them, but we don’t know who burned him, why, or how. There is a much better explanation in the movie, and we find out the actually circumstances behind the incident. The film also explains, through Kaa, how Mowgli actually got to the jungle, and why he was left there. I really liked how they did this, and incorporated into the current events, rather than just have a sudden flashback sometime during the movie. The explanation was very naturally added to the story line, and it added so much to the movie as a whole by creating much higher stakes.

The songs from the original movie were incorporated perfectly.
I was slightly worried about how they would fit in the iconic songs like “Bare Necessities” and “I Wanna Be Like You,” but they did it so well. The characters didn’t randomly break out into song, but rather casually sang the songs as any other person would while they’re doing something. I also loved the monkey scene when King Louis sang “I Wanna Be Like You,” even though it was more of a “choreographed” version of it, in that he kind of broke out into song. It was cohesive with the scene, however, and lightened up the mood a bit, which was good since there were a lot of children in the audience.

It was a more serious adaptation, but still had a lot of comic relief.
Throughout the movie, there were many characters who provided comic relief to the dark feeling of the movie. The live action version is definitely more serious, so it was good that there were scenes that got the whole audience laughing. I’m really glad that the movie was a bit more mature than the original one, but still had the magic and displayed Mowgli’s careless, happy, and giving attitude.

The end scene during the credits.
I am definitely a sucker for cute little scenes during ending credits, and The Jungle Book did not disappoint! I won’t spoil what it was, but I would stick around for the credits if you like seeing little extras. There is nothing at the very end of the credits, but the beginning is super cute.
Overall, I was so impressed with the new Jungle Book, and it wasn’t a let down at all. I was worried it was going to lose the magic of the first film, but if anything, they added a whole lot to it. It’s definitely worth seeing in the theater, and I can’t wait to buy it once it comes out on DVD!
Have you seen the new Jungle Book?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a great day! 🙂

Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer Review

Happy second day of spring! I’m so happy that it’s officially here – it’s definitely time to start pulling out all of my dresses and skirts! I’m hoping that it’ll be a warm season since winter was pretty cold this year. Speaking of spring, I’m officially on spring break right now, even though I’ve been home for a week since I had early finals this quarter, so it’s nice to be able to relax with my family!
To start this week off, I decided to do a review of a product I recently bought: the Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer from tarte!

I had been using a bronzer from the Body Shop for about three years, and being me, dropped it while I was in a rush to get ready one morning. Naturally, it shattered, and I was forced to trade in my trusty bronzer for something new. In hindsight, this was probably a good thing, because I’m pretty sure the Body Shop bronzer wasn’t the right shade for me. I think it had oxidized over the years, because lately I had noticed that it had become very orange.
Because my skin is pretty pale, it’s hard to find a contour that isn’t too dark. I don’t really use bronzer to make my skin look more tan, especially this time of year, just as a contour on my cheeks, nose, and forehead. Since I want my contour to look natural, it’s important to get a bronzer that is the right color, and one that blends well with my BB cream.
I stopped into Sephora to get a new bronzer, and wasn’t really set on getting a certain brand or product. I knew I wanted to check out the bronzers from Benefit and tarte, and of course I decided on one from tarte because of my love of the brand. I also asked the advice of one of the sales associates, and he recommended this bronzer to me because it’s one of the lightest ones they have, and would be the most complimentary to my skin.

After a couple of swatch tests, I definitely agreed with him, and decided to buy the tarte bronzer. I was initially impressed with the consistency of the bronzer, and the color was really pretty. When I put on my makeup the next day, I used the bronzer and was really happy! It went on very smoothly, was very blendable, and was the perfect color for contour on my skin! I have loved tarte products for years now, so I’m really glad that I ended up liking this bronzer. It also comes in a shimmery shade that is a little bit darker, but I decided the matte one would be better for me. Also, a little bit goes a long way with this bronzer, which is really nice so I won’t use it up quickly!

The swatch on the top is a couple of layers of the bronzer, so it’s definitely build-able if you need a darker shade.

The only downside to this bronzer is there aren’t any other shades, just the Park Avenue Princess shade that I bought. Of course tarte has other bronzers with different colors, so you could definitely check that out if you need something lighter or darker. Luckily this ended up being the perfect color for my skin, but if it hadn’t, I would’ve had to start the whole process of finding a different bronzer again.
I can’t attest to the waterproof part of the bronzer, as I haven’t worn it in the water or anything. I don’t really know how useful it will be to have a waterproof bronzer, and it does seem a bit unnecessary because I probably won’t wear bronzer if I know I’m going to be swimming, or getting really wet. Who knows, though, it might come in really handy one day when it’s humid in the summer haha.

I really like that the packaging itself has a mirror, because I used my other bronzer’s mirror to do my makeup when I didn’t have use of a bigger mirror, like in the car. The packaging is also really high quality, and very sturdy; hopefully when I inevitably drop this bronzer, it wont shatter as well! There’s also a magnet to keep the compact together, and it works really well. Tarte always has really good packaging I have found, and I love all of the natural colors they use, since most of their products are (more or less) natural.
All in all, I really love this bronzer, and I think I have found my new favorite! The shade is perfect for my skin, and the overall texture of the product is really great. Tarte has never let me down, and this product is no exception.

What’s your favorite bronzer?

Thank you so much for reading and have a wonderful day! 🙂

Book Review: The Heir

I read the Selection series by Kiera Cass when it first came out, so I was really excited to see that she had come out with a spin-off series. The first book in the new series is called The Heir, and is about the daughter of King Mason and Queen America, who are the main characters from the original book. Eadlyn – the daughter – has to have her own Selection (where 35 young men enter to possibly woo the princess into marrying one of them…basically The Bachelorette for royalty) in order to distract the public from their growing discontent. I was glad there was a larger purpose to this Selection, but it soon became clear that that wouldn’t be the main focus of the book.
It is unclear what Cass was wanting to achieve in this book; to try and get the message of the public’s growing anger with the monarchy, or Eadlyn’s anger about the selection. While at first it seemed like Cass would really focus on how angry the public was about the hard financial times the country seemed to be facing, she seemed more concerned with showing how bratty Eadlyn was, and how poorly she treated those around her. The first Selection series was about Mason and America – both very down to earth characters who I did not think could create a child like Eadlyn. She treats her maid, whom she claims to be very good friends with, horribly, and is very unhappy with having to go through the selection, even though it is to distract the public long enough for her poor father to find a way to help out his struggling subjects.
Cass seems to use Eadlyn’s feminist mind set to excuse her poor behavior, and public shaming of the men in her selection, but it just ends up being way too forced. I totally support strong female leads in books fighting for women rights, but Eadlyn is simply portrayed as being a snobby princess used to getting her way, yet complaining about how hard her life is. She is a fraternal twin with her brother, Ahren, whom was born seven minutes after her. The laws of her country dictated that even though she was technically older, Ahren was to be king due to his gender. Because their parents were so revolutionary, and America was a big advocate of women’s rights, they made it so the eldest child was to be the ruler, regardless of gender. Go them, right? Well, according to Eadlyn, very, very wrong. There is not a moment in the book when she isn’t complaining about how she’ll have to be queen one day, or how she is expected to get married soon. I get it, no one should be forced to marry young, but that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t make the best of her situation, and find a man she is actually happy with, and not some random person she’s betrothed to. She has the choice between thirty-five different men who she never would have met, had the selection never happened. She could at least try and look on the bright side that she gets a choice – something that not all the royals before her had.

I love that Kiera Cass is trying to make feminism a big theme of the book. I think more and more support for women is needed, but I do not like how it was executed in this book. Instead of Eadlyn portraying a strong woman, she is petty and cruel to those around her, especially the young men partaking in the selection. I wanted so badly to root for her and her feminist ideals, but I just ending up staring at the book like this a lot:

She questions why the public hates her, yet she gives them absolutely no reason for them to like her (i.e. at least having some sort of conscience). She insults the boys at every turn, and looks down upon people with “lower” statuses than herself. I found it hard to root for her at all, and instead was rejoicing when her brother tells her off at one point. I had such high hopes for this book since the first series had a strong woman lead, but I was deeply disappointed with this one. Eadlyn is not empathetic at all, and it was so hard to relate to her. Cass made it seem like women have to be completely rude and controlling in order to get anywhere in life. While we women have to be firm in many situations, we can also be human in order to be successful. I’m hoping Cass made us readers feel this way about Eadlyn for a reason, and maybe we will be able to see a drastic change in her for the next book, but for now I am simply disappointed. Feminism should not be portrayed as needing to be so independent to the point where women have to be cruel to anyone who tries to be remotely nice or helpful to them
All of the romance in the book is shadowed by Eadlyn’s attitude towards the whole selection. She treats the selected horribly, which in turn makes the public dislike her even more. There is also the “issue” she has with literally anyone seeing the real her, or trying to get close to her. I didn’t understand what the big deal was with people even asking her how her day was going, especially when she raves about how great and close her family is. The whole book was just a little bit off and forced to me, and it made me really sad. I had such higher expectations and I was definitely let down.
I hate giving bad reviews to books and movies, but honestly The Heir was not the greatest book in my opinion. It did have it’s moments, and for those I just might read the next book, if only to keep up with America and Mason. But by the end of the book, I was definitely questioning why I ever picked it up in the first place. It was very disappointing that this book was a let down, because the first series was really great, and I believe Kiera Cass really is a good writer. Hopefully the next one is better!

Have you read this book? What have you been reading lately?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

Champagne Pop Review

I’m so sorry this post is a week and a half late! Work has been absolutely crazy, and I’ve been really busy with last minute preparations for LA. I still cannot believe that I’m going to VidCon! That is for another post, though – today I’m going to tell you about the newest highlight from Becca cosmetics in collaboration with YouTuber Jaclyn Hill, Champagne Pop! You may have heard of it since a lot of people have been going crazy about it (myself included), so I definitely wanted to let you know my thoughts on it!
I have watched Jaclyn Hill’s videos on YouTube for a while now, so when she announced Champagne Pop, I was so excited! A good highlight is what I had definitely been missing in my makeup collection, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.
The box is a gorgeous rose gold shade with “drops” of champagne (hence the water droplet overlay for the title picture hehe) all over.
The color shows up a bit better and this picture. The back features a picture of Jaclyn and a little back story to the product!
The whole product packaging itself looks the same as the other Becca highlights, and I love how it looks and feels! It’s super chic and compact.
There’s a little plastic cover over the product when you first open it up. I couldn’t wait to get it off at this point!
 LOOK AT THAT COLOR.
Here’s a swatch on my hand!
It’s seriously such a beautiful shade, and looks so pretty in the sunlight, and also when you aren’t in direct light. I am in love!

Here’s what it looks like in simple natural light – I love how it isn’t super in your face (although you can definitely put more on than I did here!), but it also gives a super pretty glow to your skin. I applied it to the upper apples of my cheeks (is that a thing?) and also to my cupid bow area.
I love how it makes my skin glow a bit, since I have super dry skin that can look too matte sometimes!
Here’s how it looks in direct sunlight!
#highlightonfleek
I really love how this looks like in the sun – it gives you the perfect summer glow!
Overall I am SO satisfied with this product! The consistency is slightly buttery (you know what I mean?) so it goes on really well. I’ve been playing around with how much product to actually put on my brush, and I don’t really think you can go wrong. It gives such a pretty glow to the skin, and looks especially gorgeous in the sun and bright lighting. I’ve noticed my skin also looks much glowy-er in general in regular indoor lighting, and I have gotten many compliments on it!
I was afraid I would be too pale for a highlight, but this shade really compliments the pinker undertones in my skin since it’s more of a rose gold color. Even though it is a rose gold shade, I think it would look really good on people who are darker or have a more olive complexion. It really is a versatile product that can work with a lot of different skin tones!
I really encourage you to get this highlight if you’ve been needing one, or if you want to try a new one out! Becca highlights are known for being really great, and this one definitely lived up to the hype and expectations! I’m very, very pleased with my purchase, and give it two thumbs up!
Do you have a favorite highlight?

Thank you so much for reading, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

Book Review: Saint Anything

Wow, have I been busy this past week! I started my job exactly one week ago, and I definitely underestimated how tired I would be, and how much time it would take up. I have today off, however, so I decided to take the time to finally write a review for Saint Anything! I finished this book in the beginning of summer, so I’m glad I’m finally getting around to reviewing it.
To preface this, I absolutely love all of Sarah Dessen’s books. They are always so well-written and have such a great message to take away. Sarah Dessen is definitely one of my favorite authors because she makes her books so relatable, even when you don’t have a whole lot in common with the story. Her writing style is also so wonderful because her message is never forced upon you or literally written out; you get to discover the meaning of the plot line side-by-side with the main character. It drives me crazy when authors have to literally spell out (or shall I say sentence out…I know it was a pretty bad one) what the whole message of the book is, so Sarah Dessen’s books have always been a breath of fresh air. And each one literally is! I can’t explain it, but there’s just such a unique quality about all of her books that make them so fun to read.
This book definitely had all of those qualities! The whole story is about a girl named Sydney and how she is dealing with the trouble her brother, Peyton, has gotten into. Sydney has always felt like Peyton is the star of the show – receiving constant praise from their parents, and usually being the center of everyone’s attention. When he starts making bad decisions, however, he becomes the center of attention for different reasons. These bad decisions lead him to drive while drunk one night, and he ends up putting a boy in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, and is sent to jail because of it. Sydney has to deal with all of the ramifications from her brother’s mistakes, like moving schools to escape the new limelight she has found herself in, and her parents continuous worry for Peyton and not the boy he injured.
Throughout all of this, Sydney meets a boy named Mac, his sister Layla, and the rest of their family. She immediately bonds with them, and finds herself in the middle of a new family who adores her for who she really is. For the first time in her life she feels visible, and finds herself having fun each day she spends with them. Through these new relationships, she is able to figure old ones out and find her place in the world.
As always with Dessen’s books, I adored this one! I was able to relate to it a lot since I have an older brother myself, and he has always been the more extroverted sibling who is never afraid to talk to anyone. Sarah Dessen navigates this story so well by creating such real characters and great plot lines. While it is easy to follow, the plot of the book is very detailed and ties together very nicely in the end. There is a reason behind every event in the book, which is something that I really love. Meaningless events are also another one of my pet peeves when it comes to books.
I was also never bored while I read this book, and in fact found myself speeding through it! There was something interesting in every chapter, and I couldn’t wait to get through it to find out what happened. I did enjoy the ending, but also wish it had been a bit longer to see how a certain event played out, but I think Dessen did that purposefully so readers could have their own opinion on how it ended. While we all probably have the same idea, it would’ve been nice to read Dessen’s. Knowing her, though, she definitely meant to end the book the way she did!
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I definitely recommend reading it because you will not be disappointed! I think Sarah Dessen’s books are also really good for people who don’t read too much, because they’re really easy to get into and are usually a pretty quick read.
I also made a video about my review of this book, so you can check it out below! 🙂
